5TH GRADE:
HOW THE WORLD WORKS
An Art inquiry into how natural phenomenon shape areas of our world; this unit connects to the theme of how forces impact people and the environment. Students will view short videos created by a geoscience specialist as she tours areas of the Grand Canyon, the High Sierras, Sierra Nevada, and other significant areas that have been carved by the forces of nature. Students will create drawings of geo "layers" and will create a relief interpretation, using paper mache and other paper products.
WHERE WE ARE IN TIME AND PLACE
WHO WE ARE:
Students make this connection through drawings of school related symbols and themes for a series of art competitions: specifically, the ROE Yearbook Cover Art contest, and the ROE School Directory Cover contest. Introductory line, shape, value, and color (elements of art) are reviewed as inquiry shapes drawings and skills develop.
