*COMPETITIONS AND ART HAPPENINGS:
HISD WINTER HOLIDAY ART CARD: school wide participation (some grade levels will begin drawings at school and may complete them at home); Deadline: Wed. Oct.21, 2015 delivery to labeled box at entry of Art room. Materials: Drawings should be done on 81/2" x 11" paper, should be colorful, secular (non religious), international or all-inclusive theme, such as "peace in the world", "happy holidays", etc. Students may use: color pencil, crayon, water color, acrylic, oil pastels, etc. If using chalk, please apply a fixative spray to prevent smearing. Any words/ lettering should be easy to read (with correct spelling). Care should be taken in finishing the drawing with lots of color and using outlining if needed. One drawing will be selected to represent our school among 200 or more other schools in the district. It is noteworthy that for the past five years, ROE artists have ranked as finalists. Those 30-35 artists will be honored at a reception at HISD headquarters in November.
Glassell Junior School Art Scholarship Competition: Spring 2016 (per individual student) to be announced. (requires a portfolio of student drawings, paintings, etc. and on site drawing competition (MFAH sculpture gardens).
Possible participation in these Spring art contests:
17TH ANNUAL WELLS FARGO STUDENT VISUAL ARTS CONTEST: Where connections are made to specific grade levels, students will work on drawings during Art class for this contest; overall theme of: The Heart of Art (based on blending of cultures and influences in Latin American Art and Dance). Media: Drawings (black & white or color), color pencil, oil pastel,, acrylic painting, collage, printmaking. (No 3-D artwork permitted), textile flat work. Artwork may be up to 20" in any shape (square, round, rectangular, etc). Award divisions include: K-2 and 3-5. For more information : www.spahouston.org/education. Artworks will be due in early March 2016.

Please contact Ms. Lieber prior to March 1, 2016 for help with submissions, delivery and pickup of artwork.
